Pork and Football https://marylandpork.org/2021/10/22/pork-and-football/ Fri, 22 Oct 2021 15:14:00 +0000 http://marylandpork.org/?p=665 Queenstown, Maryland (October 22, 2021) – Two things that go together well is football and delicious pork! The Maryland Pork Producers Association has partnered with the Raven’s Football team for the remainder of the season to promote pork consumption, safe handling, and our producers.

With 2% of the U.S. population growing and producing food for America and many others, it is important to recognize the smaller percentage of those who raise pork. In Maryland there are family farmers, producing 18,500 market-ready hogs a year.

This football season, enjoy tasty pork during the Raven’s Football games! You can find new recipes to try online at marylandpork.org. And remember, the safe internal pork cooking temperature is 145 degrees. Learn more about safe pork handling at pork.org.

Funds for this partnership were provided by the National Pork Checkoff Program. This program was established in 1986 to promote pork, research, and consumer information.

Enjoy your next set of BBQ ribs, pork kabobs, or Italian sausage, and Go Ravens!

The Maryland Pork Producers Association is declaring this summer the “Taste of LOCAL ‘Cue.” As Maryland restaurants start to re-open, we encourage everyone to safely get out and enjoy a local barbecue.

The social media challenge is to encourage support of our local restaurants and will reward patrons with a free “Taste of LOCAL ‘Cue” T-shirt after they have visited three different BBQ restaurants or food trucks and purchased a pork dish while sharing their visit on social media.

Be sure to tag the location and our social media pages (@marylandpork on Facebook and Instagram), and use #MDPork and #TasteofLocalCue on your social media posts. The contest ends Labor Day Weekend. Once you’ve visited three local BBQ spots, be sure to complete our online form by September 8th for a free T-shirt.

“Last year many faced a unique summer experience.” Maryland Pork Producer President, Michael Stoner said, “we hope to see you get out and enjoy this summer and support the foodservice providers impacted by the pandemic.”

While barbecue is the main focus of the promotion, any pork entree, including ribs, shank, tenderloin, chops, or even pulled pork tacos, will meet the criteria. Any restaurant or food truck that serves pork can be included.

Enjoy this summer challenge and we hope you enjoy local restaurants and pork entrees.
