Sustainability

Maryland pig farmers care deeply about the environment because they rely on the soil, water, and air for their own livelihoods. These family farms raise the next generation on their land, feed them the food they produce and work toward a successful succession.

The most recent sustainability report, shares the following principles we are proud of.

  • Pork production contributes just 0.46% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere.
  • Per pound of pork produced in the U.S. has reduced land use by 76%, water use by 25%, energy use by 7%, and their carbon footprint by more than 7%.
  • In the United States, 98% of all pig farms are family-owned.
